A Brilliant Compilation5
This is the band that should have followed in the footsteps of Led Zeppelin, they had a drummer, Ritchie Cole, who was a powerhouse and was nearly kidnapped by Kiss. A bass player, Gary Giles who was a tour de force that just blew you away, who was admired by Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. A guitarist that was more than that, Del Bromham, who still draws gasps to this day. A vocalist called Steve Gadd, that had a range that was incredible and was admired by Martin Newell, they could all write great songs too, so what went wrong? Nothing, the only problem they had is that they did not conform to the norm. If they would have stuck to hard rock, they would have probably been huge but they had too much class and skill. They diversified, listen to this CD to see how much they could change their style. Today they would be hailed as masters and held in awe and there are many that still do today. From the timeless All In Your Mind through Time Machine, Yesterday's Promises and Where Do Our Children Belong, you will see the changes and skill of their songwriting and playing. Mudanzas is Spanish for Changes and that is what they have always done, every track on this compilation is different and shows how talented they are. When Steve Gadd left, Pete Dyer joined and gave them a new sound. Del Bromham became the chief writer and the diversity was still there, on record they were great, live they were superb and Del still is awesome live. It's hard to pick out outstanding tracks from this compilation because you will go back time and time again and discover new songs. One track missing from this compilation but can be found elsewhere is I Believe It but listen to Suicide, Jericho, Somebody Called You, Houdini, Take It Easy, Buying Time and One Night In Texas will blow you away but there are loads more. This compilation is a great start to knowing Stray but there is so much more to discover, you will be left wanting more. A must buy.
