Smell the groove
The compilers at Sanctuary deserve real praise for assembling this collection. The tracks all work together to present a really cohesive slice of the UK counterculture of the late 60's/early 70's. There is a real sense of freedom and experimentation with no little measure of fine musicianship. Many excellent compliations such as Legends of a Mind , Strangely Strange etc are actually limited by being tied to specific labels whereas this compilation succeeds by crossing record label boundaries to achieve an incredible feel for the time and place. Impossible to cite stand out tracks - there are so many gems.

Spaced and Lost
Any compilation that has the likes of the Pink Fairies, Hawkwind and the Edgar Broughton Band thrown in must rate highly? Probably the best rock single ever released is given a 50% airing. Check out "Do It" by the Fairies which was originally the "b" side of "The Snake" single back in '71. If you like this compilation then no doubt you already have the Fairies 1st ("Never, Neverland")> Most overlooked & underated. The late Peter Bardens (Camel) is also given a well-deserved airing. Also check out the recently remastererd 1st Camel album and 2nd ("Mirage"). Some absolute gems on this compilation and also some early Spinal Tap moments, The Misunderstood anyone?

From what was the hub of England's music scene.
An excellent compilation of Ladbroke Grove's finest, providing a reminder, as if we needed one, of what a melting pot of raw talent this area was at the time. An excellent compilation and equally excellent sleeve notes run us through with a reminder of this very special time and equally special place. Now, sadly but inevitably, the world has moved on and, but for the likes of this double pack, (and maybe a documentary, before it's too late, please?), an important facet of our musical heritage has been whisped away by time and what is believed to be, progress. Can almost smell the nostalgia as each of these fabulous tracks play.
