Product Description

One of the first books written for Hypnotherapy and NLP Practitioners that is devoted entirely to the use of these techniques in enabling smokers to quit their habit. It has been written by a Harley Street hypnotherapist with over 12 years experience in helping clients to stop smoking in one-to-one sessions. The author provides an overview of the nature of hypnotic transformation and the psychology of the smoker and goes on to show why it is not enough to enable the smoker to stop during the sessions, the therapist must also prepare the client for every situation in the real world so as to stay a non-smoker for life. Combining Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP with techniques from cognitive therapy, Yoga and stress management, the book shows how to deal with every possible situation in smoking cessation. How to influence the client even before the session, how to deal with the client on arrival and how to teach self-hypnosis and other techniques which will keep the client a non-smoker after the session. Finally it provides a practical plan for marketing a hypnotherapy smoking cessation service at low cost but high impact. n essential addition to every hypnotherapist s library - and one which readers will refer to again and again in their therapeutic work with smokers.

Editorial Reviews

Review
When I first came across this book, I was immediately sceptical with the UK still adjusting to the public smoking ban and a number of other books on smoking already on the market, I wasnt sure there was room for another. However, this book, aimed at practitioners and written by a Hypnotherapist who specialises in smoking cessation, quickly captured my attention. Starting with the basics of trance, the book covers every conceivable aspect of smoking cessation; from home visits to corporate seminars, satisfaction guarantees to self-hypnosis, marketing to marijuana, this book attempts to be the definitive practitioner manual on the subject. And a very good job it does too. The author s central message is that it is not enough to simply hypnotise a client and give them suggestions to become a non-smoker; rather, the hypnotherapist must also equip the client to deal with situations they might face in the future. In this quest, the author draws from a diverse spectrum of techniques - from Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, NLP, Stress Management and Cognitive Therapy to Yoga and the Hawaiian Kahuna. At times humorous, at times prescriptive, the book reflects the author s belief that success in Hypnotherapy depends on getting every detail right. By the end, there is no doubt as to the author s approach, and the checklist chapter allows the reader to emulate it exactly. I was left feeling as if I had actually spent time observing the author in practice. This book will appeal to a wide audience. Newly qualified practitioners will appreciate the detailed explanations and transcripts, which not only explain how a smoking cessation session should be structured, but also the reasons why. Practitioners who find comfort in scripts will find this book a real treasure trove of material. Experienced practitioners will enjoy dipping in from time to time to refresh their minds on the things that can make or break a session, and the opportunity to see another practitioner in action. I think this is a fantastic book, written in a frank, easy to read manner. It has been presented as an honest approach to help clients to stop smoking. David has correctly identified that success with clients largely depends on "getting it right at every stage in the session". His book is filled with valuable information, like tips on preparing for the session, word for word trance inductions, how to educate the client to gain control and several useful hypnotic techniques. The author has obviously devoted much time to research, and has even elicited strategies from NLP to ensure client success. In my clinical practice as a Hypnotherapist for over 35 years, I have realised that it is not only important to use such strategies and to get the details right, but also to know about marketing skills and techniques. The book gives valuable suggestions in building these skills, both for a "One to one practice" and also for the corporate market. His step by step guide includes funding, designing & preparing corporate seminars. I Would highly reference manual for the beginner and the seasoned therapist, as it contains valuable information for both to help their clients succeed with their sessions. Moreover the accompanying CD gives it the final touch making it a necessary and useful kit for every Hypnotherapist. David Botsford has produced a wonderfully honest and frank dissection of his approach to helping clients stop smoking that is as eclectic in its sources as it is in its appeal to hypnotherapists from all backgrounds. This book and its accompanying cd can be seen as a complete kit for those therapists and students of hypnotherapy wishing to expand upon their knowledge, understanding and skills when working with smoking cessation as David covers every aspect of his approach by offering sound advice ranging from the personal preparation of the therapist through to working in the corporate arena. This excellent book should be welcomed with open arms. Not Just for Smoking Cessation5
This book is a manual for hypnotherapists offering smoking cessation; but it is much more than that - it is a manual for all professional hypnotherapists. The advice and techniques given are so useful in a broad range of areas, and the writing style so clear and readable that it should be used by all professional therapists (you can easily adapt the scripts to suit other conditions). The book contains guidance on setting up and marketing; on giving one-to-one and group sessions; on marketing to the corporate market; and on follow-up with clients. It also contains possibly the best chapter on self-hypnosis that I have ever seen - simple yet effective. It is an excellent book and I for one would like to hear more from David Botsford.

Hypnosis for Smoking Cessation4
A well thought out and thorough book for those serious about trying to make money out of smoking cessation.
Everything from how you invite clients (when sending an appointment leter always sign with a blue ink pen), to how to present yourself, what questions to ask & scripts for the actual therapy
As yet I've not used it but it does seem reasonable value for money and clearly if it generates plenty clients then there would be an opertunity to easily pay for itself.
