Amazon.co.uk Review
Compiled by the band, Songs from the Other Side--a selection of B sides from the Beggars Banquet years (1990-1997) is the tardy companion to 1998's Melting Pot: The Best of the Charlatans, which covered the same period but from the other side of the vinyl. But a 16-track collection of cast-offs it's not: virtually every track confirms the band's songwriting prowess. The instrumental opener "Imperial 109" (the flipside to "The Only One I Know") is the perfect introduction to their uplifting blend of Stonesy rock and spiralling organ-fuelled psychedelia. The single's vinyl run proclaimed "Good Aren't We?" not only inspiring the title to a fanzine, but also defining the band's swaggering confidence. Songs From The Other Side takes is an aural journey through a chequered history that not only saw them survive being written off as "past it" but also the tragic death of keyboard player Rob Collins. With superb moments including "Subterranean" and "Nine Acre Dust (Chemical Brothers Remix)" capturing their developing interest in dance and the likes of "Green Flashing Eyes" and "Clean Up Kid" reflecting their longtime love of groove-heavy shuffling rock, this collection proves without any doubt that their name really is ironic. --Christopher Barrett

The Charlatans re-visited !!
This is an excellant cd for the original charlatan fan but for those who have only recently got accustomed to there music they may be a bit dis-appointed as this is not an album for the masses or for commercial success this is basically the original charlatans in the early nineties(if i had one small complaint it's that "you can talk to me" is missing)but definitely worth buying,Burgess at his rawest best and about time too ,i'm sick of putting cd singles on to hear there less famous tracks.......lol
Brilliant ! Smashing ! Genius !
These guys are "on an epic trip thru' time." I've not heard every song on this disc, but can still say it'll be fabulous. Not many bands can release material that didn't get included in their albums; the Charlatans are an exception. Just listen to Back Room Window, Don't Need A Gun, and Clean Up Kid. It seems that the only reason these songs were left off is because they 'aven't got enough bloody room ! These guys haven't lost a thing since they formed; they've only gotten better. This will be a definite must-have for any true Charlatans' fan. Get it.
B-sides from baggy to britpop
As with any compilation whether singles, or in this case, B sides fans will argue over certain ommisions. This Charlies B side compilation covers 1990-1997, and is as top notch as the singles collection, Melting Pot. Aside from the 'Indian Rope' B sides and 'Taurus Moaner' and 'Way Up There' no other fab tunes are missing, so order your copy today!
