This is the first and only authorised, comprehensive manual on the Krav Maga discipline, written by its founder, Imi Sde-Or, and his senior disciple and follower, Eyal Yanilov. Illustrated with over 450 photographs and diagrams, the book specifically addresses the official Krav Maga techniques for coping quickly and efficiently with lethal confrontations. This volume especially focuses on the various facets of dealing with an assailant armed with a sharp-edged weapon, a blunt object, or a firearm. Other subjects covered include: using everyday objects as defensive weapons, defending against two armed assailants, and neutralising threat from a handgun or a hand grenade directed at a third party in a hostage situation. As Mr Shimon Peres, one of Israel's foremost statesmen wrote in his foreword to the book: "...Terrorism does not respect borders!"

Great book on Self defence/offence
This book represents one aspect of Krav Maga ie the attacks against armed attackers. The only reason it doesnt get 5 stars is the defence against knives includes high kicking which seems odd(leaves the leg open for slashing counterattacks) & low kicking is shown defended by dropping the hand to deflect it.This however leaves the face open to hand strikes.Otherwise this is excellent & would provide the inexperienced & experienced alike with good foundation skills.I look forward to other volumes from the Krav Maga organisation.
the art is in the simplicity
well i've been studying krav maga for 6 months now, and i don't refer to the book as much as i used to as to put it simply i've learned it off by heart, but initially i studied this book intensively and read it over and over making notes and highlighting constantly. I found that the knowledge in this book was vital to me of giving me the edge in the training classes i attend, as well as giving you more variety and a deeper understanding of the underlying principles of krav maga.
You quickly realise that there are a relatively small amount of technical procedures which can be applied over and over again to various different situations. Knife threat techniques can also lend similarities of gun threat techniques etcc. Also to comment on another review where he questioned the peron defending knife attacks with kicks, he is in fact slightly misunderstanding this technique. Generally these moves will be applied to an attacker moving quickly towards you, and not so much stationary, although a good practioner can also do this equally effectively but the main point is that krav maga utilises kicks in order to stop the attacker at range before he can close to a distance to sink the blade into your neck. Again kicks are encouraged to most knife threat and stabbing situtions but are based on a simple and easy to do mechanism
However like all things this book should be used in conjunction with rigourous training regimes, to internalise and realise the full depth and variety that is krav maga and to give you the experience to know when to use what and how.
A good start to self defence
As a student of Krav Maga for the past 2 months, I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who is considering taking up a self-defence technique. Quicker and easier to learn than martial arts, and used by armed forces and elite police squads throughout the Western world, the techniques have proved their own worth countless times. This book displays only a part of the techniques: those against armed opponents. In production is a book on unarmed combat, which will teach more of the basic techniques. However, useful as these books are (an will) be, they are no substitute for learning the technique with a qualified instructor.
