Customer Reviews

Almost turned me into a photojournalist5
I read Kenneth Kobré's "Photojournalism: The Professional's Approach" a few years back when I was an enthusiastic amateur photographer. Kobré's love of his profession shines through everywhere in the book. His gritty description of the life of a photojournalist actually made me consider a career change and a life as a photographer.

The book has three kinds of chapters: chapters about specific assignments such as spot news and feature, about technical aspects such as strobe (flash), photo editing and the some suggestion about what you should have in your camera bag, and more philosophical topics such as law and ethics. All chapters feature mountains of practical advice and dozens of wonderful pictures. Kobre's tone is friendly, guiding and warmly authorative, never patronizing or trite.

I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who is considering of or studying to become a photojournalist. Not being one myself, I don't know whether those already in the field know all this stuff or if they too might find something useful. People doing photography as a hobby, particularly street photography and the like, are likely to find the book useful and exciting too, but the highish price might be harder to stomach. I certainly think it was well worth it, though.
