Customer Reviews
A wonderful comprehensive guide to Microbes and Disease!
This book is an absolute must for ANYONE who is studying this module in any A-level course, but particularly the AQA Biology B syllabus, as it is written specifically for it. It coveres all the major themes - pathogenicity, viruses, microbes, bio-technology etc. The helpful format of the book allows you to work through sections and review your progress with the self-test questions. Each chapter culminates with REAL examination questions, allowing you to practice exam technique. I would recommend anybody who is interested in this aspect of Biology buy it.
Microbes and Disease A2
A slim volume covering the current AQA A2 option 'Microbes and Disease'. This specification is being discontinued after this summer.
Not Impressed.
As this seems to be the only text book written specifically for this topic it's the best one available. However, I have found it difficult to use as a teaching aid - there is much that is over-complicated, over-detailed or barely relevant to the specification, and the information is organised so that it is difficult to pick out the pertinent stuff. It is hard to tell what is essential for a pupil to learn, and what is background information. Do they really need to learn about so many different types of fermentation and downstream processing techniques, for example? I get the impression the book was written for the new A2 course before the details of the spec. were finalised, and they have tried to cover everything 'just in case'. It could be much condensed and clearer for pupils to use. Sorry, Collins, not one of your better products.
