A carefully crafted book that addresses the users needs5
Alex Gray has managed to write an easy to read, up to date, and well illustrated book about the Internet that will appeal to the first time and knowledgeable user alike. Unlike many far more expensive books, this 192 page volume is crammed full of information and covers wide ranging topics from how to get on-line, setting up your e-mail account and search engines to Newsgroups and Security on the 'net. With an even handed approach, Alex answers the basic questions of "What it can do for you" and "What's in it for you" and also explains terms such as TCP/IP, ISP, ADSL, USB, V90 and many others.

If you have just unboxed your high street computer bargain, with Freeserve, AOL or the like, and want to know what to do next, then look no further than this new addition to the Collins Gem series.

Also worth considering: "The Guardian Guide to the Internet - A beginner's guide to the digital age";, 467 pages, Jim McClellan, 1998, £6.99.
