Product Description

The word "yoga" means union. It refers to union on many levels: union of muscle and muscle, bone and bone, union of movement and breathing, union of thought and action, body and mind. Hatha is one of the most popular and readily accessible forms of yoga: not simply a form of exercise, but meditation in action. Illustrated throughout, this book is a comprehensive survey of Hatha yoga, taking in roots, philosophy, preparation, and practice. The practical section tells you how it feels, what to wear, and when to do it, and is followed by 15 basic lessons. These lessons are fully illustrated with step-by-step instruction on how to achieve and perfect the poses, and each lesson ends with a suggested practice session of between ten minutes and three-quarters of an hour, illustrated with thumbnail pictures of all the postures for easy reference.

good to take you to the stage of self practice!4
The thing with all yoga books is that people always say "doesn't replace a class" but what these people forget is that yoga classes are only there to suppliment your OWN practice. That stage is where you need to be for this book, mainly because you need to have a good foundation to work with. Also because you need to have excepted that yoga is a life long practice and not a media fad. There is no way you are going to be able to do the postures picture perfect but the book brakes down the postures so that there is light at the end of the tunnel!! This book is perfect for when you feel like deepening you whole understanding, it is clear, and it also offers you time to go at your own pace.It also reminds us that all yoga is Hatha no matter whether astanga or not. Godfrey reminds us that yoga is as dynamic as we are at it.

simply the best5
my love of yoga has brought me many many books. this one is way the best. even better than the authors dynamic yoga. why? because it gives a clear, step by step journey in fifteen stages, from knowing nothing to knowing all you need to know about what, why and how to practice. its like having your own teacher at home, available whenever you like, to take your further in your own time. the explantion of spirals and how they radiate out from the core into the whole body, integrating and stabilising each posture in basically the same way is the most helpful understanding of yoga practice i have ever encountered. use it.
