Synopsis
A month-by-month guide to the night sky in the year 2002, together with a starfinder to make skywatching even easier. Twelve monthly charts show the night sky objects above the horizon late in the evening, whilst notes opposite each chart describe the visibility of the planets and the phases of the Moon. The guide for 2002 includes new information on sunset, sunrise and nautical twilight times, in addition to a table highlighting the principal meteor showers during the year, and notes on other important events in the astronomical calendar. The starfinder or planisphere is a device which can tell you the positions of the stars at any time, on any day of any year. It should be an essential piece of kit for any skywatcher.

This helped me boldly go where i had not been before!!!
Any astronomer, amateur or otherwise will love this book. As a complete novice it was a godsend to me. It has been kept very simple. No mind - boggling jargon. In the space of a couple of short weeks I have been introduced to the wonders of the lunar surface, Saturn and its rings, Jupiter and its four satellites and much, much more. The heavens are a daunting subject for the mere learner and what this book has essentially done for me is give me a great kickstart. That was my first question. Where do I start? This book answered this and many other questions. It informed me about star magnitudes, constellations and phases of the moon. It has also given me a diary of events for the rest of the year such as eclipses, meteor showers etc. With a little help my eight year old son has learned a lot in a short time as well.
The main thing I got from reading this book was a gentle easing in to the practical side of a big subject and this has encouraged me greatly to go on. The book also fits snugly into my jacket pocket when I go out with my telescope at night. Its a handy reference aid to take with you. The starfinder that comes with this is an incredibly easy and invaluable tool. After only a few minutes my son had sussed it out. This is honestly the best buy I have made in a long while. Go get it and happy skywatching!!!
