Customer Reviews
An excellent follow up to 'Book of Shadows'
This book is definately worth buying. It is written in the same friendly, easy-to-read style as her first book (although you do not have to have read 'Book of Shadows' to understand and enjoy this one). She explains all about The Craft in an down-to-earth style, retells personal anecdotes, as well as giving basic and advanced instructions on how to practise the tasks she discusses.
This has quickly become a favourite on my bookshelf, and I would recommend it to everyone. Whether you are a beginner or experienced, it is definately a book worth owning yourself.
For a 'magical life'
This book isn't as bad as I expected, when I bought it I thought it would be as it looks, a rather light based Wiccan books based on contemporary wicca and living a
'Magical life', with little in the way of living a more logical life.
Sometimes judging a book by its cover does save a little time, although I did give the book the benefit of the doubt.
Like most 'Wiccan' books Curott conveniently misses out the part about Wicca being an oath bound, initiate tradition, also using Wicca and witchcraft interchangeably - which normally brings about a big red stop sign for me when buying any Pagan book.
Although from an experienced pagans point of view this is far from Wiccan, it does have some very useful information and practices in there which are very beneficial to a pagan living more of a 'magical life' - by which I mean daily meditation, magic and practice alongside a strong spiritual self.
There are a lot of exercises in this book for those who want to start with basics or go back to basics, they are geared towards a specific type of pagan lifestyle but they are not patronizing and for those who wish to live a 'magical life' as a spiritual pagan path this book would be a good guide to get into this way of life.
To those of you who look for logic over magic or who do not have the time to partake in daily practice this book is not really for you, but if you have a chance pick this up sometime, it will at least inspire some more spiritual practice or thoughts from you, which you might find surprising - I myself found this book reminded me a lot of the feelings and emotions of my life when I followed magical practice, which was a nice trip down memory lane.
BUY!
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Phyllis has a beautiful, inspiring writing style, and she includes just enough anecdotes to make the book personal to her without it being exclusive of everyone else. This book is a goldmine of information, and the exercises are designed for both beginners and intermediate practitioners alike. Always respectful and never patronising, Phyllis has written a book that anyone interested in the natural, green side of witchcraft simply must read. She places the emphasis of the Craft on the connection to the Divine, instead of the slavish adherence to principles laid out in earlier Wiccan works that you see elsewhere, and I can't help but admire her for that.
