The Lake of Souls
I thought that this was one of Darren's best books ( my favourite being Trials of death). I liked the way it explained Harkat's life, gave you a twist with how Harkat was and the cliff hanger ending. I thought though that the story kind of went off the main focus of the saga with Steve and the Vampaneze. I thought however it was a good book and well worth all other Darren Shan fans.
very different
This book was very different from the other Darren Shan books I have read, but I think that it had something to do with the fact that this book was set in another relm. In this book I found alot more about Mr Tiny that I never knew before and it surprised me just how powerful he acturly is.
The great thing about this book was the place that it was set and the discription of the relm that darren was put in. Most aurthors when writting about different relmes tend to go OTT with there discriptions and make it seem really unrelistic. But Darren Shan got it just right and made the relm both scary and relistic at the same time. Finally the twist at the end really was surprising, completely unexpected and finished the book perfectly.
Review of Lake of Souls
Coming late to children's/teenage books I have found that Waterstones have a range to suit all. I started with Darren Shan, as a trilogy, to take on holiday, I have since bought all the books including the latest Lake of Souls. Considering I am in my late fifties, these books have keep me on the edge of my seat. Book 10 has been the most revealing of all as to where where Darren is going but I do hope that he won't stop at book 12. I have never been so rivited by any book for such a long time. I have read Buchan, Christie, (Manga and watched Anime, to those who know the genre). This is the most unbelievable series that I have read in my lifetime. I have recommended these to my son (who reads Terry Prichard). I would certainly recommend this series to all who enjoy fantasy. I eagerly await the following volimes.
