Great healthy principles
First of all, to the previous reviewer, have you actually read the book? How do you write anything without basing yourself in the facts? The book does not say at all "Eat 3 apples for three months". Not at all, in fact it encourages to eat the correct amounts of calories, fat, carbohidrates and protein for optimum fat loss.
The idea is to eat 3 apples a day ON TOP of your normal three courses and two snacks a day. It encourages you to eat an apple before or with each of your main meals. The principle is the fact that apples contain 10- 15 gr of fibre and pectin, which eaten with your meal will slow the release of blood sugar levels. And as an added benefit you got 3 portions out of 5 of your daily vegetable intake out of the way.
It uses the general principles of the GI diet, making it the healthiest way of eating, with an intake of 40% lean protein, 40% low GI slow releasing carbs and 20% good fats. It also encourages you to exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes a day.
So it does use healthy dietary principles, and you don't end up hungry at all.
It does work. It's the first time in my life that I do not have any cravings for chocolate or sweets whatsoever, in fact I have to try and eat more than usual to keep up with the minimum 1400 calories intake indicated for my weight.
It worked for me!
I am living proof that Tammi's plan can work. In twelve weeks, I lost 27 pounds of fat (not muscle) and 16.5 inches! That's 11% body fat. Her plan is based on proven results and I am one of those people. Do I understand the science? Not exactly, but I do know that it worked when nothing else has and it is simple. I ate low fat/high protein foods and complex carbs plus I ate half an apple before each meal. It helped fill me up and curb my appetite. I've tried other things and failed. The first thing i would like to say is that it clearly states that the diet is eat 3 apples a day IN ADDITION TO a well balanced diet. I believe that the GI diet is a good idea, because it is not meant as a quick-fix diet to lose a few pounds in a few weeks, but it is meant as a complete change to your eating habits.
The second thing i would like to point out is that there are more benefits to losing weight than just your appearance. It is also very good for your health, particulaly if you are overweight. I personally have PCOS and i am overweight, so i understand how important it is for me to lose weight other than just to look better, or fit into slightly smaller clothes. I care more about my health than my personal appearance.
I think this idea is a very good one, as it encourages you to eat fruit (3 apples can count as 3 of your 5 a day fruit and vegetable portions), and lose weight sensibly. Just make sure you don't choose the less healthy foods which are low-gi just because they are low-gi!
