This is the third title in Collins' new "Artist's Studio" series for the intermediate painter. Shirley Trevena, author of the very successful "Taking Risks with Watercolour", is well known for her vibrant use of colour and, in this superbly illustrated book, she focuses on using colour in particularly creative and innovative ways. Colour is one of the most important aspects of painting and all artists find it a fascinating, but at times challenging, subject. Shirley Trevena's masterful use of colour is widely recognized and, in this book, she explores all aspects of using colour in innovative and occasionally unorthodox ways, resulting in watercolours that are a riot of dynamic colour. Colour theory is looked at through a series of simple exercises that illustrate how the principles work in practice, and there are fascinating sections on using just single colours and neutrals, and how to mix colours in unusual ways to create interesting and sometimes unconventional effects. The role of colour to evoke mood and atmosphere is also covered, and throughout the book Shirley's stunning watercolours provide valuable inspiration for artists looking to develop their own style. The key features of the book include: Explore Further exercises; Studio Tips; practical projects; Food for Thought discussion points; and, step-by-step demonstrations. In addition, to provide a broader view and show different ways of using colour, the work of several guest artists is featured. The other titles in the series: "Loosen Up Your Watercolours", Judi Whitton (September 2005); "The Secrets of Watercolour Success", Hazel Soan (June 2006), and "Experimental Watercolour Textures", Ann Blockley (May 2007).

Mouthwatering colour!!!
If you know and admire Shirley Trevena's work then you probably already have this book. Although aimed at the watercolour painter this has plenty of useful information on using colour to be of help to most artists. As well as that the fabulous colour paintings and illustrations make my mouth water! (maybe I'm just strange that way).
If colour is your thing this could be the book for you!
SIMPLY STUNNING
This book is a "must have" for any watercolourist. Shirley with great generosity shares her experience with colour in a non nonsense way that any artist can understand. Just try some of the tips that she demonstrates and you will see for yourself. It is no wonder that her exhibitions are "sell outs".
Stunning
The perfect mixture of technical advice, encouragement and inspiration alongside stunningly beautiful pictures. A treasure.
