Comments from a beginner5
This is a very good 'staged' introduction to ACOL contract bridge. The first 2 chapters contain enough fundamental information to get you playing quickly. Then he goes into more detail in later chapters, building on what you've learned already. Simple algorithms are used throughout to illustrate bidder's and responder's choices and there are 'must know' inserts. There are also lots of sample hands to practice on after you've read the rules. It is very cleverly written; you can study it or skim it as the mood takes you. I would recommend it to any beginner who has joined a club and wants to play regularly.

0 to 60 in 10 seconds: highly recommended5
This is an excellent introduction to the game of bridge following the Acol convention by Andrew Robson, who is the Times Bridge correspondent. It really does begin by assuming you know nothing and covers very elegantly and easily everything you need to know to be able to bid at a reasonably competent level. You should however know that this concentrates more on bidding than it does on playing so you will need a partner book to help you to think about how to play the cards better. Even for a reasonably good bridge player, especially if you're getting back into the game, this is a very good refresher. Highly recommended

Want a better understanding of Bridge - read this book5
For clarity of presentation this book is a winner. It suits both beginners and those who have played for a while. There are lots of easy tips on how to become a better player. The boxes at the sides of various pages which summarise ideas and rules are so useful. With this book I hope to become a more able player. Thank you Mr Robson for making the game of bridge so much more interesting and challenging.
