Customer Reviews

Very Good Book5
Although not an improvement on the first book in the series, it's still an amazing book, and is very close in quality to that. This is helped by the fact that it is a lot longer than the first one, although the story is so intense it flies by. Would definately recommend this to fans of Darren/D. B. Shans work, plus anyone with a general interest in the genre - you won't be disappointed.

Crime Thriller5
This is the second book in the re-released "The City Trilogy" which was originally released a while ago and apparently flopped. I never read the original series but unless there have been huge changes then I really can't see why it failed.
This book is a brilliant melding of crime drama and supernatural thriller, what I mean is it has all the grit of a detective novel but it also has slightly mystical/strange things to help poke the plot along and keep it interesting. The protoganist has a few nice revelations to go through which make this book even more interesting than a simple detective book. Overall I'd say if you like "The Dresden Files" then this is something like that except if the ratio of magic-realism is 50:50 in Dresden Files then it's 20:80 here, so it's a lot more believable and it in no way suffers for that.

Excellent read. Nice length on it too.

pretty good book!4
Having read all of Darren Shan's other books i knew to expect something fast paced- this is no exception! The plot races through and although the description is a bit sparse in places the twists and turns the plot takes makes it worthwhile. Read the first book in the series first as it is referenced in this book.
The underlying themes in both books seems to be about accepting and embracing the darker side of your personality, there really are no true 'protagonist' figures in these books and you will find yourself warming towards the main characters even though they often do things which would normally turn us against them.
Can't wait for book 3!!
