Fun, outrageous, stimulating look at sex in the 90s (1790s)
I received this book many years ago as a 21st birthday present from my aunt. What a book!! It takes a fun approach to sex. Who knows when it was really written; it probably doesn't matter. All I know is that the friends that I've given copies to, have reported that their sex lives have greatly improved and that they laugh alot more now.

A Gentleman's Relish
Warning:- If you are easily offended do not read this review, and definitely do not buy this book.

This book contains two novellas taken from that infamous and now defunct magazine The Pearl (eighteen issues published between 1879-80). The first tale is Lady Pokingham (who indeed loves to be poked). The story is her memoir which she writes as she lies dying from Consumption, and contains scenes of uderage sex, hetero, sapphic, and gay. With orgies and lots of flagellation we also have incest and a secret Catholic sisterhood who service the clergy and by the use of depravity seduce powerful men into Catholicism. Indeed this is a heady brew to keep you more than interseted.

The second tale is La Rose D'Amour. In this a young man is introduced to sex when his cousins come and stay. When he returns to Paris with them they iniate him into an exclusive club where orgies take place admist its opulent surroundings. Here our hero, Louis becomes fascinated to an extent with the exotic East, as so many did at that time. He decides to create his own seraglio and recruits women to be his playthings, he also travels to Constantinople to buy women and eunuchs, etc. Whilst there he also abducts women which he also does in Spain. There is some underage sex and sodomy along with sapphic love in this tale; what will offend many is the abduction and drugging of women so that he can rape them.

If you have an interest in the erotic genre through the centuries this will be a must have, indeed if you are interested in the fin de siecle you will probably also enjoy these two tales. This book will never be mainstream but if you are a 'discerning' gentleman and can put aside thoughts of morality and law you may find this book great escapism.

Very erotic, more imaginative than any contemporary writing
Made up of a selection of stories and poems, there is definetely something for very taste here. With the added advantage of being written in the C19, which gives an extra twist. It certainly blows away all the stereotypes we have of sexually repressed Victorian society. And can also be seen as a lesson to all those pesudo-moralists who seek to return to C19 values. This writing was actually published at the time and consumed vorociously by its readers. And its certainly stood the test of time.

Its only downside is, with most writing of this nature, its all written from the male perspective. However, whatever your gender, if you enjoy a saucy read - this is the book for you!
