Opposites can attract
Erica Johnson is a strident, politically active, animal loving, meat hating, Democrat supporting, African-American school teacher who lives and breathes the causes that she believes in.
Mark Newman is a gun toting, steak loving, politically ambitious white Republican who is seeking re-election as senator of his backwater southern state.
At a political rally, Erica gatecrashes it and comes to the attention of Mark who is immediately smitten by her.
So begins a fraught meeting of two idealists at opposite ends of the political spectrum. Slowly they realise that despite their entrenched opposite views, they actually have more in common in terms of values than they first thought.
Mark is a widower and Erica awakens the lusty emotions that have lain dormant since his wife's death. Erica's passions are too awoken by a person who on the face of it, would normally repel her.
The secondary characters like Bitsi are just as engaging and used effectively.
Karyn Langhorne has written a sparky novel that I found absorbing, exciting and thought-provoking.
