Elegiac seminal gay novel
Much more than a story of gay love, Dancer from the Dance is a seminal book in gay literature than transcends boundaries and speaks straight to the heart of love, desire, ambition and wit. Beautifully written Dancer from the Dance is one of the most important gay novels authored by a master of narrative and a speaker to the soul. Utimately frustrating to the reader as it is, with so many questions unanswered, this is still a novel of amazing vigour and startling vision. Read it to learn of the importance of Estee Lauder, and the doom of desire.
Disco damage
This is an amazing book. I picked up a copy in a second hand bookstore in New York. I would wholly recommend that you read this book too.
Set on the gay circuit in New York c. 1975, I never imagined that the central themes teased out through the two main characters, Sutherland and Malone, could have remained so relevant today.
Timeless, breathtaking, witty, devastating, and above all beautiful...
Dancer from the dance
A brilliantb read yet at the same time depressing. An account of the excitement of life for a small group of hedonistic gay men in pre AIDS New York. Follows primarilly the transformation of Malone from being an all but closeted homosexual to being the centre of attention at parties with a gym toned body, yet jobless and penneyliess expect for the occasional payment as a thirtysomething rent boy.
