THE blueprint for any company to beat the rest.4
This book lays bare Jack Welch's recipe for success. I was amazed at how every principle despised by Welch is so typical of British management today. Every business manager should read this book. The only downside? The author can see no wrong with Welch, something the man himself would disagree with.

FOCUS ON HELPING PEOPLE DECIDE WHAT TO DO FOR BETTER RESULTS5
Jack Welch was a late adopter of almost every major management trend in the last 20 years, yet he got better results from using these ideas than most other companies did. His secret is revealed in this good overview of the Welch years: He spends 90% of his time communicating with people about what they must do in order to take advantage of these ideas. Most people spend almost no time on this critical area. You should think of this book as a great primer then on corporate communications. If you want to know more about the bad habits that organizations have that stall progress, you should read the new survey by the American Management Association. For ways to adapt new practices from other companies that exceeds what Jack Welch and GE do, you should check out the new management practices that have been developed by TWENTY TIMES PROGRESS (go to www.mitchellandco.com, click on the icon for "management processes" and use the pre-diagnostic questions there to find the processes that will be of the most value to you and your organization). worthwhile4
While not a rave, it is always worthwhile to read the stories of the very successful. Jack Welch is without question a revolutionary businessman, and his story is well told here. The book itself was typical of its type (the writing was lackluster), what makes it special is the ideas behind the words.

Don't look for this book if you want a cultish depiction of Jack Welch, the Man the Myth the Legend. Instead, read this as a business owner might and apply its lesons to your corner of the world.
