Customer Reviews

ok, but not outstanding3
Most 'build/upgrade DIY' books seem to contain 90% or more info about peripherals and general computing stuff, and less than 10% material about actual building/upgrading. This book is no exception, and I find this disappointing. The book is less thorough, but also less expensive, than Mueller's book, with which it competes directly. Positive points: it is well written, has plenty of photos, and contains material not treated in depth by other books, such as a step-by-step guide to using the 'fdisk' program. Is up-to-date, as the title would suggest. Negative points: the photos are so dark it is hardly possible to make out any detail on them (perhaps thats just a particular print run). Most processor details are about AMD, not Intel. Not enough troubleshooting advice. Recommendation: buy if you are on a tight budget, otherwise go for Mueller's book.

One of the greatest books ever5
This is a great book, it covers most aspects of the main hardware in any PC. It has details on USB and Pentium 3 chipsets as well as many motherboards. All in all this is a book that you should buy.
