Excellent
Full of detailed information for all kinds of security vulnerabilities. Not great for those with little technical knowledge.
A MUST have!
OK... it is (at least) weird that this book has not been reviewed yet...
Anyway, this book is the 6th edition of the Hacking Exposed legacy and, in my opinion, it is the strongest book of the series. This book tries to cover every aspect of IS and exploits and, we must say, it does a very good job. Of course it is not oriented to a particular technology as it touches many different topics such as Windows, Unix, Web and Application hacking as well as hacking tools. If somebody needs a more detailed approach, he can consult other more technology-specific books such as The Web Application Hacker's Handbook by Stuttard D. and Pinto M.
What I like in this book is the way every possible exploit is approached and the structure it is presented through(Threat Evaluation, Attack Explanation, Mitigation/Countermeasures). This book is everything somebody would need to gain an overall picture of the threats and risk that his/her system may have. After reading this book, you will notice that you will probably need a more detailed and oriented book as previously mentioned but that's the way it goes...right? My only objection may be the overall Chapter structure but no author can satisfy everyone...can he?
Thumbs up for the Hacking Exposed series which continues to have a more systematical and mature approach than most of the books out there. Definitely a MUST have as it is the entry point for every serious IS professional.
