Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Microsoft Outlook has come a long way and its latest incarnation, as part of Office 2000, is the most powerful yet. How To Do Everything with Outlook 2000 makes a comprehensive attempt to guide both new and experienced users through the new version.

The book excels as a manual for those completely new to Outlook. It begins with a guide to "Finding Your Way Around Outlook" and ends with tips on configuring Outlook 2000 to work with Microsoft Exchange. Although books like this are seldom read from cover to cover, reading the first seven chapters of Julia Kelly's book would make you an accomplished user very quickly. There is a section on installing Outlook 2000 (at the end), but the book assumes that you have Outlook 2000 up and running. Any trouble with dial-up to your ISP or connection to your office LAN to get your e-mail and you will have to look elsewhere for assistance.

That aside, Julia Kelly writes in a friendly, non-geeky style, which chimes with her ambition to write for "normal computer users who have normal jobs". So-called power users may balk at the prospect of using Office Assistants, but the author is not afraid to enlist their support when she is describing ways of customising Outlook 2000. Elsewhere, handy tips appear throughout the book such as how to stop junk mail from senders who hide their name in the "From" field. In an age of unending spam this is just one valuable tip from the author. This highly readable guide to Outlook 2000 will get new users up-and-running quickly and teach old hands the benefits of using this new version. --Paul Fisher
