Customer Reviews

A collection of precise accounts of the daylight air war.5
I read this book having visited the wartime airfields of Parham and Horham in Suffolk where the 95th. Bomb Group were based.
It helped me and others who borrowed the book to understand more about local wartime events by means of a remarkable collection of personal memories collected from both servicemen and the local community.
The book is not just about the dangerous, freezing high altitude daylight raids to the continent, although they are here too.
It is also a black and white documentary on how East Anglian village life was effected emotionally, commercially and technologically by the war.The story of 'The Man who came for Breakfast', a replacement airman shipped from the U.S. who, having arrived late, was briefed and left on his first fatal mission in the early hours of the following morning is particularly moving. His flying kit is on display at the control tower museum, Framlingham.
I recommend this book.
