Sadly disappointing
This book looked as if it was just what I wanted - for all round reference, but I agree with the reviewer above - almost every time I tried to find something it either wasn't in the index or the index was wrong. It is very frustrating. The pictures are useful and the text is easy to read but it really isn't the book that the interested cat owner would expect it to be.
saved a cat
This indepth book came to good use just a few days after I bought it. A friend had been having problems with his cat for over half a year and the vets were stumped by the cat's quite serious and strange symptoms. Luckily information found in this book steered the owner and vets in the right direction and the correct diagnosis was finally made possibly saving the cat's life. So, even if I never find another useful bit of info in this book again, it has still truly been worth every cent.
Almost comprehensive
When I first bought this book I was very excited. I thought that it was just what I, as a breeder of cats, had been waiting for. The layout looked promising and the photographs were clear and informative. Unfortunately, I found all too often when I needed to know something, either it wasn't referenced or the index was wrong. The index definitely lets this book down. The text is often either beyond the needs of the usual cat owner or too sparse. I am sorry to say that, even with the considerable amount of information in this book, it has let me down too often for me to refer to it as I had hoped to. I would certainly reccomend it to someone with more technical knowledge of the subject, but not to the ordinary cat owner.
