About the Author
Pam Hobbs grew up in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex and in 1950 emigrated to Canada where she has lived for most of her adult life. Following a l967 cross-country adventure in a camper van with her husband and three small children, she became a travel writer. Since that time she has explored the world on assignment for North American newspapers and magazines; many of her articles have won awards. She has also written or co-authored six travel-related books, and is an active member of the Society of American Travel Writers' Canadian chapter. Pam lives in Toronto with her husband, Michael. In addition to three daughters they have four teenage grandchildren who live close enough to make life interesting.

Extremely Interesting and very readable.
This book is really a wonderful read. Although it deals with the experience of being evacuated during the second world war which must of been a hard thing to have to go through, it is written with humour and intelligence. The book also is very descriptive about life in England in general during those times without getting bogged down with too much detail. I really loved reading about Clarabelle too. All in all, a wonderfully written account of what it was like to be uprooted from your loved ones, taken miles away to the country to live as an evacuee as a young girl and then the trials and tribulations upon returning back to the family after evacuation. I thoroughly recommend this book.
