J.D's Story
Ahhh. Jazz. John Dankworth. And everything that comes with him. Lovely. And this is his story. Spanning from his early days as a knipper in short trousers right through to his 70th birthday, we read of the boy who found a love for jazz music and went on to be one of the key Brisish jazz musicians of all time. Dankworth's style is very user-friendly; it is the sort of auto-biography that manages to entertain and inspire you without being over-dramatic or too heavy. Filled to the brim with many funny tales of J.D's encounters, and with a historical and informative viewpoint, this is relaxing and enjoyable reading full of knowledge from a man who has certainly been there and done that. The price is quite high for the Hard-Back edition, but with its many photos of the man himself with other celebs (Messers Sinatra, Gillespie and Ellington, for example), it is understandable. Enjoy
