Synopsis4
This book covers the late medieval and plantation period of Ulster history and as such explains the birth of modern Ulster at this crucial period in history. The wars of the 16th century are covered in detail as well as an explanation of the mechanics, impact and effect on the people of the early plantation, and migration of people to Ulster, after the 16th century wars had ended. The subject is dealt competently by the well known military historian Cyril Falls, however it is difficult to keep track of the various leaders and sides the conflict. The reader will be left in no doubt that the job of disentangling the complex web of 16th century Ulster factions and politics is not an easy one, however the general thrust of the story is easily followed and the book will be enjoyed by anyone with an interest or perhaps more importantly ancestry from Ulster.
