Exciting true adventure stories, well told
A good, rich source of the adventures of arctic and antarctic explorers from around 1800 to 1914. Mainly well-written, there is a strong narrative drive and some fascinating detail about the bravery, and sometimes the stupidity, of these great men. Some of the coverage is a little uneven -- this book doesn't tell you everything -- but it's told with relish and sensitivity. The book climaxes with Scott's tragic expedition, and makes a moving tribute to the end of an heroic era.
