Different, not worse
This is completely different to Sleepers, yes. BUT, is a great book in it's own right. It's entertaining and the characters are actually quite complex, if you are prepared to get into it. I loved Sleepers too, but it would all get a bit boring if authors stuck to one type of story. This shows Carcaterra's versatility and excellent story telling abilities.

No comparison to Sleepers....
The book starts off well, describing the backgrounds of the main characters but after that it tails off badly. Towards the end it reads like a bad, cliche-ridden, testosteroney action film and left me quite disappointed - especially after Sleepers which is one of the best books I have ever read.

Apaches is an easy book to read, but if you've read Sleepers and are expecting this to be of a similar quality - you're going to be disappointed. They could have been written by two different people.

Third Rate Sleepers
A book that held a lot of promise but in the end failed to deliver. So full of cliches and corny moments. Not one of Carcaterra's best books.
