Product Description

Meet Fantastic Daisy Artichoke. She isn't quite like other folk! She has strange pets and funny clothes and she knows lots of funny jokes. Fantastic Daisy Artichoke, a new and memorable character by Quentin Blake, will have as great an appeal for young children as the immortal Mr Magnolia. The delightfully off-beat rhyming text complements the artwork perfectly.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Fantastic Daisy Artichoke is another wonderful classic from the pen of celebrated children's writer Quentin Blake. This story is written as a very amusing and easy-to-read poem--"The iron stove she loved to stoke / that filled the room with clouds of smoke / Amazing Daisy Artichoke!"--and Blake's renowned illustrative skills accompany the story on each colourful page in a superbly expressive, chuckle-inducing way.

Daisy Artichoke is a grown-up friend of a little boy and girl and they love to visit her for lots of reasons which the poem gradually reveals. What fun they have when they visit her! What a weird and wonderful person she is! Each page of this large-format book has a different activity: Her bike that almost always broke / The pond in which she liked to soak / Her lovely raggedy patchwork cloak...". Read aloud, the poem is as expressive as the drawings, building to an emphatic close. Daisy is a character who will become a childhood favourite. A superior early-years book, "not like other folk" Daisy Artichoke will endure for many generations. --Alison Jardine

Customer Reviews

Effortless, quirky, funny children's poetry5
This really appeals to both my children and to me. It's a large (A4) format book with Blake's characteristic, spiky, lively illustrations. Daisy Artichoke has a couple of young friends who admire her raven with it's awful croak, her lovely ragged patchwork cloak, and many other unlikely rhyming phenomenon.

It's incredible how many rhymes Blake found, but the poem is effortless and flows beautifully. My eldest child, at 4, loves to join in with the poem and always has a huge smile on his face at the end.

I heartily recommend this book.

Love this book5
Quentin Blake's illustrations are incredibly beautiful and a real inspiration to draw and paint for kids and adults alike. This is a great book about being an individual and being proud to be so. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

It is suitable for adults to read to children as well as children reading it themselves.
