About the Author
Born in Meridian, MS, in 1963, Greg Keyes spent his early years roaming the forests of his native state and the red rock cliffs of the Navajo Indian reservation in Arizona. He earned his B. A. in anthropology from Mississippi State University and a master's degree from the University of Georgia, where he did course work for a Ph. D. He lives in Savannah, GA, where, in addition to full-time writing, he practices ethnic cooking--particularly Central American, Szechuan, Malaysian, and Turkish Cuisines--and Kapucha Toli, a Choctaw game involving heavy sticks and no rules. While researching "The Age of Unreason," he took up fencing, and now competes nationally. Excellent!
This latest Star Wars novel and penultimate in the "New Jedi Order" series, is, in my opinion, one of the best so far. The story deals with *SPOILERS* Nom Anor (in the guise of the Prophet), Harrar and a shaper (I forget her name - Nen Yim perhaps) who try to get to Zonama Sekot. After Tahiri promises a Shamed One that she will tell their leader where Zonama Sekot is, she sets out with Corran Horn to "rescue" a Sekotan living ship captured by the Vong and return it to Zonama Sekot. Meanwhile Antilles leads part of an attack to reclaim the Bilbringi shipyards. Naturally things don't go to plan...

The book is excellent and serves as a brilliant continuation of the unofficial "Edge of Victory" trilogy dealing primarily with Tahiri and her new acceptance of her "Vong self".

However, it has to be said that, in my opinion, while the book is excellent as a stand alone novel, it seems to be building up to the NJO finale, "The Unifying Force" quite a bit. Not so much in the story itself but in the way it is written; little hints here and there, that sort of thing.

Well, all in all, one of the best NJO books out there and a vital part of the series. Very highly recommended!!! A*!

The pace picks up.....
It is really very hard to review this book as it stands as it is really just a set of foundations for the Unifying Force.

Lets just say some of the major characters are flung across the universe, a couple of battles happen, something upsets the Galactic Republic. We are given more (a lot more) insights into the Vong, Nom Anor changes from being a sore (why was he still alive type sore) into something very different, and then changes again. (but thats Nom Anor for you)

Too say any more would risk spoiling things for you. This is a great scene setting novel.

As I have said before if you haven't read any of the NJO books then this is DEFINATLY NOT the place to start. Go and buy Vector Prime, set aside enough cash to buy the rest of the series, arrange for a close relative to die (work/school excuse) and strap yourself in for a ride that can only be compared to the original Starwars movie. If you have already done read the previous books then there is no point me telling you to buy this one as I will assume thats not an issue.
