Alfie and Annie Rose are at the Harvest Fair where Alfie enters his masterpiece: Motor Bike Man in the under-fives painting competition. As he checks out the prizes: a dinosaur book, a jigsaw puzzle and a bottle of green bubble bath, he spots a rather sad looking woolly sheep - the consolation prize. Alfie is delighted to win third prize, but dismayed to see that consolation prize winner Louise is not at all happy with the woolly sheep and dumps him crossly on the floor by her chair. Alfie knows that toys cannot understand, but secretly he thinks the sheep's feelings might be hurt. Then Alfie has a brilliant idea - one that makes everyone happy...

Everyone loves Alfie!
It's an exciting day for Alfie! His painting "Motorbike Man" has been entered in the children's painting competition at the Harvest Fair. His friends Bernard, Kevin and Louise have done paintings too, but when the winners are announced, not everyone is happy with their prize. Then Alfie comes up with a brilliant solution!

Customer Reviews
Books written by Shirley Hughes
As with all books written by Shirley Hughes, this is an excellent book which my 3 year old son really enjoys having read to him time and time and time again and so does dad.
We have all the Alfie, Annie Rose and Olly & Me books and can't recommend them highly enough. Shirley Hughes's writing is funny, endearing with recognisable stories. Her wonderful illustrations are little pieces of art, each and everyone. Nobody can depict the essence of young children the way they are, like Shirley Hughes.
Shirley Hughes's Nursery collection is excellent for under 3 age group.
I would also like to recommend the Katie books (Sunflowers, Mona Lisa & the Impressionists) by James Mayhew. Because of these books my 3 year old son loves going to art galleries to see the actual pictures.
