A Chilling Classic5
There can't be anyone who doesn't know the story of 'The Birds' from Hitchcock's classic film - but the original story is even more chilling and has a very different ending to the film - Don't read it home-alone late at night !

Some good stories, but nothing outstanding4
After reading some other du Mauriers, I thought I'd try some short stories. They were quite interesting, and some were very good, but none were anything amazing. I felt that the first ended too abruptly and the second went on too long, but perhaps that's just personal preference. The stories are put down as horror, but I'd say they were more a mixture of suspense and thriller. These are good, but not her best and nowhere near as absorbing as Frenchman's Creek, Rebecca or Jamaica Inn, the last two of which capture the atmosphere of suspense better than these stories.
