The Best Political Dairy of the 1980's
Having just finished reading this book, I can say it is totally compelling reading. Benn narrates the decline of socialism in the Labour Party accurately in commenting on the shift of both Foot and Kinnock towards the right wing of the party.
His account of the 1981 Deputy Leadership is compelling as is his treatment of the miner's strike and the role that the police played as an agent of social control.
He shows vividly the bias within the media and the numerous battles he had with the BBC and although I dont agree with his own opinions, I found it a most engaging book. But then I'm a politcs teacher....
