Excellent field book for the serious tree pathologist
An updated edition containing new species of tree pathogens to the UK. It remains as ever the bible for foresters and arborists both undergraduate and graduate alike. Still the most practical and easily indentifiable way of diagnosing tree pathogens. The author remains insurpassable as ever.
Diagnosis of ill-health in trees.
This book is a must for any arborist and also for any amateur tree fancier, gardener and the like.
The best Pest and Disease book I own
This is a real must for all Arborists thinking of embarking on surveying, inspecting and officer work.
The start of this book has a lot of information on the different abiotic and biotic factors that cause harm, tools and equipment to use for inspection, and methods to use to carry out an inspection.
The rest (and the majority)of this book is full of numerous P&D causes that are relevant.
So how to use this book? Simple, you see a Acer pseudoplatanus with all its leaves covered in black spots, go to the book near the start look up Acer, then foilage, and check the options. See the most likely (Sycamore Tar Spot) check page number. You are done.
It covers the scientific name, damage type, infection and spread, significance (example; very common in SE), hosts, control, and prevention.
It seriously is a must have.
Issues? only one, the fungi information is very limited, and coincidently their is a book by Lonsdale following the series with fungi information in depth but nothing on everything else. hmmmmmmmmm
