About the Author

DR. BERNARD SKLAR has over 40 years of experience in technical design and management positions at Republic Aviation, Hughes Aircraft, Litton Industries, and at The Aerospace Corporation, where he helped develop the MILSTAR satellite system. He is now head of advanced systems at Communications Engineering Services, a consulting company he founded in 1984. He has taught engineering courses at several universities, including UCLA and USC, and has trained professional engineers worldwide.

One of the most complete textbook for students5
This book is a very good support for digital communication courses. It's the base book for Digital Comunication in some Universities. It covers all the critical subjects on this matter, and more.... It's true that some of the less important subjects are covered in an introductory way, but that fundamental topics are there in an easy way to understand!

Certainly value for money5
A very well written book, of course covering all aspects of digital communications, but not ignoring analog parts of the chain (e.g. noise). Very clear explanations, useful examples, no BS. There are other books that might be equally interesting (Proakis,...), but you can be sure about this one.

Non-coherent Communication!2
I am a professional Electronics Engineer in the field of Digital Audio, and I was looking for introductory text on Digital Comms. Well, there's no denying that this book has plenty of content, but it reads terribly. If you try reading this book in a linear fashion, as I did with Chapter 1, you will find that the author darts back and forth through the example DCS in a seemingly random fashion. This spaghetti writing is further hampered by terrible grammar, punctuation and typographical errors. The theme continues throughout the book with huge blocks of text just copied and pasted from one chapter to another, there's just no decent structure to this text. The author appears to have simply compiled segments from other people's books and thrown it together. As a learning tool I don't recommend it, and as a reference book it would appear to be a little too dumbed down. I've sent mine back and ordered Haykin!
