Average customer review:Product Description
In recent years the gas turbine, in combination with the steam turbine, has played an ever-increasing role in power generation. Despite the rapid advances in both output and efficiency, the basic theory of the gas turbine has remained unchanged. The layout of this new edition is broadly similar to the original, but greatly expanded and updated, comprising an outline of the basic theory, aerodynamic design of individual components, and the prediction of off-design performance. The addition of a chapter devoted to the mechanical design of gas turbines greatly enhances the scope of the book.

Gas Turbine Theory, Sixth Edition
HIH Saravanamuttoo
GFC Rogers, H Cohen, PV Straznicky
When the First Edition of this book was written in 1951, the gas turbine was just becoming established as a powerplant for military aircraft. It took another decade before the gas turbine was introduced to civil aircraft, and this market developed so rapidly that the passenger liner was rendered obsolete. Other markets like naval propulsion, pipeline compression and electrical power applications grew steadily. In recent years the gas turbine, in combination with the steam turbine, has played an ever-increasing role in power generation.

Descriptions of engine developments and current markets make this book useful to both students and practising engineers.
FEATURES:
· completely updated to cover current industry requirements and applications
· coverage of both aircraft and industrial gas turbines
· includes detailed treatment of off-design performance
· incorporates in-depth examples throughout
· based on the authors' extensive teaching and professional experience
Gas Turbine Theory is the classic course text on gas turbines, suitable for both undergraduate and graduate students of mechanical and aeronautical engineering. This new edition will also continue to be a valuable reference for practising gas turbine engineers.
THE AUTHORS
Herb Saravanamuttoo, Professor Emeritus, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, has many years experience in the gas turbine industry on both sides of the Atlantic, and is a Past President of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute.
The late Gordon Rogers was Professor Emeritus of Engineering Thermodynamics at the University of Bristol. He was author, with YR Mayhew, of Engineering Thermodynamics Work and Heat Transfer, 4th edition.
The late Henry Cohen was formerly University Lecturer and Director of Studies in Engineering at Queens’ College, Cambridge.
Paul Straznicky is Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University and has many years of experience as a mechanical design engineer.

Customer Reviews
The most outstanding book on Gas Turbine Theory & Design
I recently acquired the fifth edition of Gas Turbine Theory by Professor Saravanamuttoo to add to the previous four editions in my library. Just like the previous editions, I have found the latest edition to be the best book ever written on Gas Turbine Theory and Design.
I have noticed many improvements throughout the new edition with updated information on both Industrial and Aero Gas Turbine applications. In fact, it is probably the only textbook that covers both types of Gas Turbines with the required clarity and depth for students and practising engineers.
In particular, it has more illustrations with pictures and reference to actual Gas Turbine plant performance and design features as compared to the previous editions which makes it most relevant to real world applications.
As a practising engineer in a Gas Turbine Generating plant, I have found the inclusion of Performance Monitoring and Degradation to be most welcome given my special interest in this area.
I used the second edition as a student at University and the latest edition is my preferred and favourite textbook for the Gas Turbine part of a course that I teach on Thermal Power at the BSc level at the University of the West Indies.
After comparing it to all other textbooks in this area, I consider it to contain the most outstanding and excellent coverage of Gas Turbine Theory and Design for both students and practising engineers. It is extremely comprehensive with the clarity and depth to provide the reader with a thorough knowledge of this subject matter.
It is my opinion that this book culminating in its 50th year of existence since the birth of the Gas Turbine engine would become a collectors item worth more than money could buy. It is real value for money and therefore grossly underpriced. What a great bargain if there was ever one!
I would strongly recommend this new edition for students pursuing courses on Gas Turbine and practising enginers involved in all applications of Gas Turbine engineering.
The defining Gas Turbine Theory Textbook
This an excellent long established and well written text book covering all aspects of the Gas Turbine including Compressor and Turbine Design and also combustion processes. It has usefull illustrations but is writted for the engineer/student - not the casual reader. All in all a must read for anyone studying the topic.
Extremely happy with the purchase
The book is great. This is a book for every engineer in the field of gas turbines, whether stationary gas turbines or aircraft gas turbines.
In addition, the response time of the user is quick and the book was delivered within the two week period.
