Average customer review:Product Description
For courses in Finite Element Analysis, offered in departments of Mechanical or Civil and Environmental Engineering.
While many good textbooks cover the theory of finite element modeling, this is the only text available that incorporates ANSYS as an integral part of its content. Moaveni presents the theory of finite element analysis, explores its application as a design/modeling tool, and explains in detail how to use ANSYS intelligently and effectively.

From the Back Cover
Unique in approach and content, this book presents the theory of finite element analysis, explores its application as a design/modeling tool, and explains in detail how to use ANSYS intelligently and effectively.
FEATURES
- Provides comprehensive — but not overwhelming — coverage of finite element theory.
- Helps readers learn how to use ANSYS quickly and effectively.
- Shows how to use ANSYS step by step to model a physical problem.
- Integrates ANSYS throughout. Each chapter:
- First discusses the relevant basic theory and then demonstrates it using simple problems with hand-calculations.
- Follows with examples that are solved using ANSYS.
- Presents all exercises in the same manner. Some exercises require manual calculations, while others, more complex in nature, require the use of ANSYS.
- Discusses various sources of error that can contribute to wrong results.
- Emphasizes how to manually verify Finite Element Analysis (FEA) findings.
- Devotes a section of approaches for verifying ANSYS results at the end of selected chapters.
- Features a number of open-ended design problems at the end of Chapters. 7, 8, and 10.
- Devotes the concluding chapter to design optimization and parametric programming with ANSYS.
- Offers a brief review of fundamental principles in solid mechanics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
- Appendices give mechanical and thermophysical properties of some common materials used in engineering.
- Provides a list of objectives and a summary for each chapter.

Nothing much better than a print of ANSYS online help
This book failed to meet my expectations. I thought it would provide more than the akward and 'bity' help within Ansys. You get a collection of tutorials which are great if you only want to do that exact analysis. This is not a book for an engineer as it does not expand or elude to how you might go about solving _your_ model. The 'Design Optimization' Chapter is less than 6 pages of text -woefully inadequate!
Go on an ANSYS course and get the answers to your questions.
its not what you expect
this book is soo brief and short you cannot understand what you need. its mostly computer based and not the actuall formula solving.
i highly dont recommend this book for university students
its good guide to know FEA fundamentals
It provides good explanation of FEA.Clear language and easy to understand all equations but it is abit poor for ansys. It just shows simple ansys examples.
overall, good book for begining users who wants to know FEA fundamentals.
