Customer Reviews

Excellent overview of these technologies,5
Developing ISDN software for the first time, I needed to get a foothold. I bought 3 books. Stallings' book was the best at explaining ALL terms and concepts, and how they relate to each other. Where other authors dive in the deep end and regurgitate RFCs and ITUs, Stallings takes a higher level approach initially, and lowers the reader down gently into some low level discussions. Where others tend to be woolly in their use of keywords and acronyms, and leave the reader confused about which signals are in which domain and which protocols sit on top of which others, Stallings deliberately addresses each concept and explains how they fit in the bigger picture. He therefore makes understanding the principals straight forward. I had used his SNMP book before and found him to be concise and accurate. This book is the same. This book should be read before any other for the high level picture, and then used in conjunction with detailed ISDN books or ITU documents. Keep it handy.
