Un-put-downable about how women survived the war!5
This is a brilliant saga about WW2 from a female perspective. There are countless books about men at war. This deals with the women. Those who suddenly found a place in the working market, those who were trusted to fly the planes only men flew before the war (and after). The women at the front and back home. In the USA, the UK and France. A true masterpiece. Read it!

An excellent novel of the second world war5
This book is an engrossing look at WWII through the lives of seven main characters and is both moving and uplifting. As you would expect from Marge Piercy the women are especially strong and form the focus of the book. I'm not always thrilled with Marge Piercy's work but this book is one of my all time favorites. Valerie Milners All Good Women covers a similar period and complements this book very well.

Brilliant5
It has been my pleasure to read this book twice and each time I loved it more. I can't praise it enough - I feel as if the web of characters are close to me - I feel as if I know them personally and the passage through their lives during the 2nd World War - their loves and sorrows, their hurt - their grief stays with me even as I write. I cried with them and felt for them - to say nothing of learning of some of the terrible things that happened during that time. I was born a few years after the War and have only read about it and listened to the stories of my father and relations who served in the War but Marge Piercy brings it to life and weaves a magic spell in an extremely clever book of how people without realising it are all interwoven throughout the novel - each character has their own story - which also makes this such a fantastic read. I want to share it with everyone!!!!!!
