This is an excellent book - I use it whenevr I need to make sure I know at least something about a topic I'll be discussing, writing about or whatever... Whether you're a history student or not, this book is certainly woth even just browsing throuh every now adn then...enjoy
Not for the faint-hearted...
This is an incredibly detailed account of the development of Europe since 1870. In his book, Joll skips from one country to another in the space of a few lines, making detailed comparisons along the way. However, this can make the text hard to follow and it is certainly not a book for the faint-hearted - long, complex sentence after long, complex sentence does not make for a light read! Nevertheless, as a reference work this comes highly recommended.
