Customer Reviews
Excellent and very comprehensive.
This book is by far and away the most comprehensive and clear account on the bloody collapse of the Former Yugoslavia. It is excellently presented and by no means does one need to be an expert on the subject to understand it. I have both lived and worked in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and now study the subject. By all accounts the book is historically accurate, non-partisan and a good, though heartbreaking, read. For anyone who wishes to understand the break-up of the Former Yugoslavia there is no better starting place.
No scapegoats, No demonisations
Excellent, well researched and cogently written history of the break up of the former Yugoslavia. Read it - it might help make some sense for you of what is happening in the Balkans. It does explain very well the short term opportunism of men like Tjudman & Milosevic. It's not about "centuries of ethnic hatred" as many western commentators would have you believe, it is about short term explotation of "national" identities for political ends.
Essential reading from Books on Bosnia
This short review is from "Books on Bosnia" published by The Bosnian Institute. Linked to the BBC documentary of the same name, provides a detailed account, based on exceptionally valuable and extensive interview material and on contemporary reportage, of the rise of Miloševi and the dissolution of Yugoslavia
