Customer Reviews
I wish it could go on for ever
Potential Buyer,
I got this book, the day it came out. I absolutely loved it. I was 13 at the time and even now, I read it, especially the memorable bits. Memorable bits? The places where you share the same emotions with the characters and feel what they feel.
Lord of the Rings is the only book that I know of that has come close to doing this but Goodnight Mr.Tom creams anything.
If you are currently on a shopping spree, get the video or DVD at amazon too, but read the book first as sadly, although very good in all aspects of film, the video does not cover the whole of the book.
Michelle Magorian has a way to enfold her readers into a deep sense of relaism, as if you were actually there with Tom, Will, and Zach and the other countless characters who all are used to put forward a very strong, yet meaningful voice of hope.
Every page makes you crave for more and brings out emotions for both adults and children alike. This book is an absolute masterpiece, one which I suggest that your hard earned £5.99 goes to.
Since the tale of what it is about has been mentioned above, I won't say what the book is about other than you have no idea of what a gem of a book awaits you.
I need not say anymore other than buy it, read it, read it again, and again............and again, till you can laugh..... ache..... and cry no longer.
Goodnight Mr Tom
This book is about a boy called Willie. He is an evacuee in world war 2. He has to go and stay with Tom Oakley, who lives in the countryside. At first they don't get on, because Tom does not want an evacuee staying with him. Willie is scared of Tom because his mother beats him, therefore he is weary of any adult.
Over the months they grow to become friends. All is well until Willie has to go home to his mother, who he knows, will continue to beat him. Tom is also aware of this and does not want him to go.
The book has a very moving and emotional ending. Read this book to find out what happens when Willie finally returns home.
I read this book when I was I Year 7 (11 years old) and I thought it was very appropriate for my age group.
an all around good book
im a 2nd year student in a school in Dublin, Ireland. My class and I are studing this book for our junior cert. in june 2003. we found that this book covered every emotion imaginable. It showed that you don't know what goes on behind closed door. It showed us the different relationships between different age groups for example there was Tom and William, the relationship between Zach ( a fellow evacuee from london ) and loads of other different types of relationships. It is a book that everyone can relate to in different ways (old or young, male or female) its a great book.
