A must-read!!!!
This is a great book, though it's cataloged 'ages 9 to 12' I still enjoy reading it. Jean Webster created a fresh caracter in Judy Abbot, who is smart yet so innocent and unknowing of the world outside the JGH. Her letters, 'ligth and breezy' are deligthfull, and allow us a view into a world of wonder in the eyes of a sweet young girl. I started reading it one night and couldn't stop. This book is easy to read, and leaves you with a funny kind of feeling, you just have to love little Jerusha. AND Master Jervie too!!!!
A DEFINITE 5 star book!
This book is "a pearl in a bed of oysters." I couldn't put it down, I read it in a day, and I've re-read it at least three times! Don't expect a story summary from me, I want you to find out how good it is for yourself! I get headaches from reading "heavy" books like "The Best Little Girl in the World" (I know that tittle dosn't sound heavy, but you'd be surprised!) If you do too then don't worry because "Daddy Long Legs" is light reading that will make you want to read it again and again.
I thought this book was a very captivating book.
Daddy-Long-Legs was one of those great books that you never want to put down. Jerusha Abbot, the orphan who is writing the letters which make up the book, grew up in the John Grier Orphanage with everyone stressing conformance. But thanks to this young woman's sense of humor and talent in writing, a trustee of the orphanage is kind enough to send her to college in hopes of her becoming a famous writer. He only asks that she writes him,her anonomous benifactor, a letter describing everything that goes on in school every month. Jerusha is extemely entertaining as you read her letters to "Daddy-Long-Legs" She meets Jervis Pendleton, a rich fellow whose presence she comes to enjoy tremendously and later on becomes a prominent figure as she strives to fullfill her dreams of writing a great novel.
