Incomplete and frustrating!
From the very begining you are aware that the book is only part of the package. Continual references to 'worksheets' 'tapes' and the 'self study booklet' make it clear that the book is designed for classroom use with the necessary back-up. As a stand alone it's use is limited.
Designed around 15 aspects on life in modern France, the articles are generally well presented although there are a number of basic errors, the map of the Francophone world, the flags of European countries etc.
Overall it would be good if you have the back-up, if not then forget it.

Complete French A level course
This book is great - benefits include

- both AS and A2 in one book

- MODERN! bright and colourful

- clear layout

- helpful contents overview (it notes the aspects of communication, grammar and exam skills contained withing each topic area)

- clearly presented grammar points within each topic area

- separate section containing texts offering the possibility of further extended work

I made the mistake of ordering the 1994 original version first -don't bother! It is predominantly black and white and although the content is much the same, it looks very dull.

In short - this book does the job (you'll need the cassettes though) - but unlike some others, it does it with some style!

This book covers all of the topics needed for post 16.
The joy of this book is that unlike many of it's rivals, it covers the topic areas for the AS and the A2 in one book.

Although a lot of the articles are very similar to the original this book is more colourful and up to date. The texts are often challenging and there are a good range of listening and speaking activities.

The book also provides enough material for teachers, enabling them to get on with teaching and not having to worry about finding additional resources.

The additional resources to accompany the book are also excellent and resolve the problem of additional home study materials.
