From the Author
The community pays for prisons - read about them from inside
This book provides a unique insight into the closed world of prison, exposing many issues of concern to those who pay for them through their taxes. In a series of true stories, often disturbing, about the penal context I have tried to present a series of images, mixed with statisics about the criminal justice system which challenge our perceptions of prison, and of those who minister in them from a Christian point of view. The Archbishop of York, Dr David Hope, has said of this book, 'I doubt...whether I will ever come across a book as brilliant and disturbing as this work by William Noblett' From the Foreword. (The book actually has 288 pages)

Life Inside
Trying to find books that dealt with the issue of chaplaincy within prison in a knowledgable, but fair manner is difficult. This book not only explained the history of prison chaplaincy, but also gave the reader an understanding of what a day in the life of a chaplain might entail. The situations described are all sensitively dealt with, and enable one to understand how different people deal with life inside. Prison chaplains, to whom I have recommnded this book, said the prayers helped renew their strength in dealing with the difficult situations they dealt with, and also providing a starting point for talking about their work to friends and family.
