Product Description

A sound understanding of how the body is built and functions remains fundamental to all aspects of medicine. Most diagnoses have to be arrived at from an examination of the intact living body and so an understanding of the functional anatomy of the living body and how it should be examined remains a critical skill for practitioners. Designed in line with changes in the medical curriculum, the Oxford Textbook of Functional Anatomy delivers the essential anatomical information needed by today's medical student. The book will also prove invaluable to sports medicine students, physiotherapists, health professionals working in musculoskeletal medicine, and radiologists. Content is strictly limited to that which aids understanding of the principles of body structure or is useful in everyday clinical practice. The book emphasizes the anatomy of the living subject, and to underline the increasing importance of non-invasive imaging, there are many computerized tomograms and magnetic resonance images. Ideal for medical students throughout their course and future career, the Oxford Textbook of Functional Anatomy offers: * A modern approach to functional anatomy emphasising the living body and new non-invasive imaging techniques * 700 colour line illustrations and photographs to aid understanding of the principles of body structure in everyday clinical practice * Clinical applications of anatomical information are highlighted in 'clinical boxes' thought the text * Self-assessment questions to stimulate thought and problem-solving Designed to meet the needs of the 21st century medical curriculum, the Oxford Textbook of Functional Anatomy delivers a sound working knowledge of the structural basis of body function in an accessible and user-friendly way.

Customer Reviews

An approachable anatomy book!5
I normally find learning anatomy both difficult and tedious, but this book and the others in the series are very readable, with excellent illustrations, and all the important medically relevant facts. I found the sections on imaging and reflex arcs particularly helpful.

Good as a summary but not for easy learning2
This is a good overall summary of the anatomy needed to pass the BM Part One exam but is not really a very good guide to learn the anatomy from. It poses much of the core knowledge as questions which have answers printed in the back, this can get rather annoying when flicking back and forth. There are quite a few typo errors with red arrows pointing to red muscle on diagrams, making them unidentifiable. Overall an adequate revision guide when you have background knowledge of anatomy, but not great for the first-time anatomist.

A good summarywith many clinical references3
A good summary of the anatomy of the Thorax and abdomen with particularly good features including a section on medical imaging and sections of the chapters focusing on not only the anatomy but also the development of organs. There are many useful radiographs/ endoscopic views of organs both normal and diseased which help to give a better all-round picture of the anatomy. Questions that feature heavily interspersed with text provide a good way of reviewing knowledge, but not really a good first guide to anatomy as it puts much of the core material into the answers in the back of the book.
