Written in the aftermath of hostile criticism of Ghosts, Ibsen's three plays all deal with the moral courage needed to tell the truth. They are peopled not by symbolic figures and abstract concepts, but by complex individuals pitted against, or part of, a society that Ibsen felt was morally abhorrent and claustrophobically provincial.

Review
"A good, clear, and comprehensible edition--faithful to Ibsen but easily accessible to our students here."--Chris Fauske, Northeastern Essex Community College
Customer Reviews
Ibsen beautifully packaged and prepared!
This is quite simply a masterstroke by Oxford Worlds Classics , putting these three later plays together with in depth introduction and notes. An Enemy Of The People is my favourite Ibsen play dealing with small town issues and the quest for the truth, The Wild Duck is a tragic tale of illusions being shattered while Rosmersholm is a tale of conflicting ideals leading to tragedy. The translations are superb, the structure of the plays is pure genius and having these three in one volume is a clear illustration of the greatness of Henrik Ibsen.
An Enemy of the People is agonizingly brilliant.
While Ibsen's other two plays in this volume are great, neither can come close to the genius of, An Enemy of the People. Dr. Stockmann's battle for truth against the self-interested masses is perhaps the most agonizingly wonderful exploration into truth and individuality. Ibsen is a master.
