Editorial Reviews

Review
The Introductions to these books are veritable teaching courses in themselves, and the notes for each song provide an immense amount of preparatory guidance on how to approach it. (Clare Stevens, The Singer, June 07 )

OUP's Voiceworks series, edited by Peter Hunt, now consists of eight volumes, and all have rightly been highly acclaimed. Junior Voiceworks 2 will be welcomed with enthusiasm by teachers and choir directors whose copies of Junior Voiceworks 1 are perhaps falling apart through overuse. Like its predecessor, this one is edited by Kevin Stannard, who has found, or in some cases written, a delightful selection of unfamiliar songs aimed at primary schoolchildren. The collection is international in flavour and includes a mixture of playground rhymes, folk songs, traditional and contemporary repertoire in a wide range of moods and styles. It is more of the same, but when the product is so good, who could possibly complain? (Clare Stevens, The Singer, June 07 )

Once again, attention is given to the holistic development of singing, with guidance and advice on warm-ups, teaching and performance . . . With the current emphasis on primary singing this resource has appeared at a very convenient moment . . . Put it on your wish list this year. (Ian Shirley, Primary Music Today, September 09 )
